Juan Antonio Howard was born on 7 February 1973, in Chicago, Illinois USA, and is a former professional basketball player in the NBA with teams including the Denver Nuggets, Orlando Magic, Houston Rockets and Miami Heat. He is now a coach, extending his involvement with professional basketball which began in 1994.

Juan Howard studied at Chicago Vocational Career Academy, where he also played basketball. Howard’s talents on the court earned him the title given by Parade magazine of an All-American basketball player and increased his chances of pursuing a professional career. A President of Vocational’s Senior Boys’ Council, Juan Howard proved himself on the court during his senior year with an average of 26.9 points per game, and attracted the attention of many colleges and universities. He enrolled at the University of Michigan in 1991.

Howard played for the Wolverines team from his first year, helping the team to accomplishments in the NCAA play-offs in all three years, although never reaching the final. He was not implicated in an illegal payment scandal which saw the team sanctioned after a lengthy inquiry, and was named an All-American in the 1993-94 season. He unusually graduated while having been already drafted into the NBA.

Juan Howard entered the NBL 1994 Draft and was picked up 5th overall by the Washington Bullets, signing what was rumoured to be a 12-year, $37.5 million contract, Partly because of unfamiliarity and a run of injuries to key player, the season was not a success, but Howard still picked-up a Rookie of the Month award, and after the season, Howard was offered a seven year contract that amounted to $100 million, making him the first basketball player to receive such an offer. Howard spent seven seasons playing for the Bullets, only reaching the play-offs in 1997, but maintaining his net worth as seen when he was traded to the Dallas Mavericks in 2001.

However,Howard went on to play for Dallas Mavericks for just a season, before joining the Denver Nuggets and then Orlando Magic but only for one season each, before playing three seasons with the Houston Rockets. Howard then also briefly returned to play for Denver and Orlando, but made a permanent stop with the Miami Heat where he debuted in 2010. Even though initially Howard’s salary for one season only amounted to a little over $1 million, his importance in the team grew and he stayed there for three years until 2013, including winning the 2012 NBA Finals. In 2013 Howard announced that he would be staying with the team, however, not as a player on court, but as an assistant coach. Juan Howard has been holding this position ever since.

In his personal life, Juan Howard married Janine Wardally in 2002, and they have two sons. However, Juan is believed to have three other sons and a daughter from previous relationships. His current residence is in Florida, but he also maintains a permanent residence in the Chicago area. In 2009, he bought a luxurious apartment for $2.5 million and also purchased a land worthy of $11 million where he built his house.
